Food: Gusto at Poughkeepsie

photo from @chefbolchoz

Last weekend I had the opportunity to visit Gusto, an Italian restaurant that opened in the spring on Collegeview Ave, directly across from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie. The restaurant has great ambience and includes a bar and dining area downstairs, second floor seating, and outdoor patio for those nice days. The owners also run the Market Street restaurant in Rhinebeck, and Cucina in Woodstock. As you can read from the reviews, the acoustics of the restaurant is quite bad, making conversation difficult. But overall the food was good and I had an enjoyable evening.

Food: The Cupcake Bartender

This photo from the New Rochelle Street Fair over the weekend stopped us in our tracks. The delicious looking cupcake was made by the Cupcake Bartender for the fair. Alcohol is added to the cupcakes to add a special flavor: champagne, rum, Bailey’s, etc. You can try the cupcakes at special events, or order them online.

The Olana Historical Site at Hudson, New York

I finally had a chance to visit the cute town of Hudson, New York last week. On the way back, I stopped by the Olana Historic Site several miles from downtown Hudson. This Persian-inspired mansion was built in the 19th century by the artist Frederic Edwin Church, who was known for his landscape painting. With a view like this, it shows he knew what he was doing picking such a beautiful spot:

Looking out from the mansion, you will get to see the Hudson River among hilly vistas, farms, and a strategically placed lake. There are guided tours available so that you can visit the interior of the mansion and the art exhibit at the gallery.

The sunset of at the estate would be beautiful, but unfortunately I left a little too early. Maybe I will be back in the fall and catch the sunset among the autumn colors.
